Mostly it seems problematic it would apparently require non-power of two registers and busses in a hypothetical Vector Processing Unit, for example.

So the size (in bits) of any decorated interval is by nature not going to be a power-of-two, which means generally speaking it will not fit in one piece into a hardware register or buss.

This suggestion emanates from my view of electrical serial busses being the functional equivalent of parallel busses and having a BER of 0, not 10E^-12.

Examples of implementation might be backplane busses in modular hubs, or chaining cables in stacks of bridges/switches.

At the time the concept was of a bussed MII with multiple PHYs present, but only one active.

The usual suspects are power supply transients, interference from other busses and signals on board, and finally ground loops in your measurement setup that couple external noise in.
